My name is Rui Lourenço. I was born near Porto, Portugal. Growing up I was fascinated by books and all sorts of printed matter. My favourites were the geography ones, filled with flags which I would obsessively replicate in my drawings. I guess that's how my passion for design started, stimulated in no small part by the family's computer and a copy of CorelDRAW 7.

The years passed and I did end up studying Graphic Design in Caldas da Rainha, a place famous for its artistry, and then later in Budapest. Soon after, I went to work in Berlin, where I learnt the importance of punctuality and how pleasant lying on the grass can be. Intrigued by the East, Warsaw would be my next destination. There I worked for different studios, which allowed me to fully develop my abilities in the digital realm.

In 2020 I joined the newly formed Flod, a studio entirely focused with what comes next. Starting as Design Lead and then Head of Design, I ran projects end to end: workshops, identity and product, leading a multidisciplinary team drawn from all parts of Europe. A good chunk of that work sat in cutting-edge digital products, from DeFi and fintech infrastructure to automotive HMI. Those were dense, technical fields which motivated me to adjust and expand my knowledge.
